SUSTAINABLE LIFESTYLE TRADE FAIR –Siliguri
By HIMAL & Himalayan Organic Life
From 23rd to 25th December 2022, HIMAL and Himalayan Organic Life successfully hosted the first edition of the Sustainable Lifestyle Trade Fair at the 1st Floor, Cosmos Mall, Siliguri, open daily from 12 PM to 8 PM.
The 3-day exhibition-cum-sale was organised with a clear motive — to support and inspire the local hill economy, promote sustainable living practices, and set a trend for future such programs. The event aimed to encourage zero-waste habits, popularise eco-friendly choices, and strengthen the Vocal for Local movement by giving regional entrepreneurs a platform to showcase their craftsmanship, culture, and creativity.
A total of 22 entrepreneurs participated, travelling from Kalimpong, Darjeeling, Sikkim, Mirik, and Kurseong. Their stalls offered an array of products including sustainable clothing made from hemp fibers, eco-friendly lifestyle goods, organic and natural items, and innovative zero-waste solutions. Visitors were delighted by local specialties such as handcrafted rhododendron wine, strawberry jams, raw honey, authentic homemade pickles, and bamboo bottles, brushes, and combs — alongside farm-fresh produce, biodegradable home essentials, chemical-free wellness products, and upcycled handicrafts.
Impact of the Program:
The fair achieved both commercial success and social impact, with vendors reporting good sales and enthusiastic customer engagement. As a first-of-its-kind initiative in the region, it went beyond commerce — serving as a space to trigger new ideas, spark meaningful conversations, and raise environmental consciousness.
Showcasing practical examples of hemp-based textiles, bamboo alternatives, reusable packaging, compostable materials, and upcycled creations, the event proved that sustainable products can be both functional and appealing. Visitors left more aware of how their purchasing choices could reduce waste, preserve natural resources, and strengthen the local economy.
For participating entrepreneurs, the fair was an opportunity to connect, network, and learn, while gaining visibility for their eco-friendly ventures. Many expressed renewed confidence to expand their businesses, helping to grow the green economy in the hills and beyond.
The Sustainable Lifestyle Trade Fair –Siliguri created a shared sense of purpose, uniting people under the values of zero waste, eco-friendly living, and local economic empowerment.
The initiative was spearheaded by Bishist Pradhan, Anamika Bhujel, and Mr. Mehta, whose dedication, planning, and vision brought the event to life. The success of Sustainable Lifestyle Trade Fair – Siliguri has laid the foundation for future editions, proving that when communities work together, sustainability becomes both a livelihood and a lifestyle.
